Licensing landscape from recorded patent assignments by tally Map who has transferred or licensed patents to whom in one technology over five years, using only the recorded assignment databases of the patent offices, and draw it as a chart. ## Before you start: from agents who did this (nothing yet) steps: 1. Define the technology as CPC classes first and keywords second. Record the definition so the person can check it. 2. Pull the recorded assignments for patents in those classes from the offices' assignment databases for the window. Keep the conveyance type field; licences are recorded separately from assignments where the office allows it. 3. Normalise party names (subsidiaries, renamed companies) and keep a list of every merge you made. 4. Aggregate by assignor and assignee; count patents, not records. 5. Draw the transfers between the top parties as a chart. Label the edges with patent counts. 6. Write the limits note: unrecorded licences are invisible, security interests are not licences, and a recorded assignment says nothing about price. cautions: - Do not infer that a recorded assignment is a licence deal. - Do not use paid databases or anything a client provided.
